For their first collaboration, New Balance and mfpen work with what’s already there - working with available surplus materials from New Balance’s own production in Flimby for a limited release of just 90 pairs sold exclusively offline.
Tumbled nubuck, pigsuede and mesh from the factory’s surplus stock come together in this tonal interpretation of the 991v1. mfpen’s restrained detailing is worked throughout, with grey embroidery at the heel, an open mesh tongue and debossed branding keeping the focus on the materials and construction. The collaboration also draws on the Flimby factory archive. An original thick-line ‘N’ stamp, once used to deboss the logo directly into the saddle, returns for the release, bringing an archival detail back to the 991v1.
